(Sofia, 22 April, 2009) Over 1 million chess fans will watch the games from the fifth edition of M-Tel Masters. The competition, which this year again is under the patronage of the Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov will start on May 12 in a speciall glass pavilion at the square in front of the National Theater Ivan Vazov. Till 23 May for the title will compete the leader in the world ranking Veselin Topalov, Magnus Carlsen from Norway, last year's winner Vassily Ivanchuk from Ukraine, Leinier Dominguez from Cuba, Alexei Shirov from Spain and Yue Wang from China.
We expect over 1.2 million people to visit the web site of the tournament mtelmasters.com, shares the chief of the technical performance team of the competition GM Ventsislav Inkiov. Apart from the moves from the three games from each round this year the spectators will be able to see live picture from the ches tables in the glass pavillion.
For another year the web site of M-Tel Masters will include the game Play like Topalov, in which more than 1000 people take part each year. The winner in it has the chance to play a game of chess against the 19th Wordl Champion Veselin Topalov. The best in that game from last year Vasilis Kontos from Greece will play against him at 19:00 local time on 12 May. Topalov will play blindfold and the game will take place on the square in front of the National Theater.
The 23-year old Kontos managed to guess 168 moves of Veselin Topalov. He is presently studying Public Administration in Athens. He learned to play chess at the age of 12 in his native twon Karditsa. His favourite player is Veselin Topalov and this made him participate in the game on the web site of M-Tel Masters 2008.
